- Comment on taxonomy
- Der bislang verwendete Name Laccophilus variegatus Germar & Kaulfuss, 1816 stellte sich nach Silfverberg (1977) als jüngeres Homonym für Dytiscus variegatus Fourcroy, 1775 (= Hydroporus palustris Linnaeus, 1761) heraus. Allerdings hatte auch der daraufhin von A. Nilsson befürwortete Name L. ponticus Sharp, 1882 keinen Bestand. Bei der Revision ägyptischer Dytisciden stellte sich heraus, dass die seinerzeit als L. poecilus Klug, 1834 beschriebene Art lediglich eine Varietät von L. variegatus darstellt. Damit ist der fast 50 Jahre ältere Name L. poecilus anstelle von L. ponticus zu verwenden (Ahmed & Angus 1998).
