- Die Art ist möglicherweise konspezifisch mit Peronospora sparsa, in die P. rubi oft einbezogen wird. Peronospora rubi konnte künstlich von einer hybridogenen Rubus-Kultursorte auf ein Rosen-Kultivar übertragen werden, während Myzel von Peronospora sparsa auch in den Interzellularen der Rubus-Sippe wuchs (Breese et al. 1994). Weitere Untersuchungen sind erforderlich. Vorerst wird der engen Artauffassung von Klenke & Scholler (2015) gefolgt.
