- Die beiden ehemaligen Unterarten Scomberesox saurus saurus (so in der vorherigen Roten Liste bezeichnet) und Scomberesox saurus scombroides werden aktuell als Arten, nämlich als Scomberesox saurus (Walbaum, 1792) und Scomberesox scombroides (Richardson, 1843) geführt (vgl. Fricke et al. 2023). In den deutschen Meeresgebieten kommt nur die Art Scomberesox saurus vor und wird in der vorliegenden Roten Liste entsprechend benannt.
