- In Europa kommt der Brandpilz nur in Deutschland und Frankreich vor (Scholz & Scholz 1988). Weitere Nachweise, aber auf einer anderen Wirtsart, liegen aus Nordamerika vor (Vánky 2012). Wenn sich für die europäische Form eine taxonomische Eigenständigkeit bestätigen sollte, könnte es sich bei H. morotiana um eine Verantwortungsart handeln.

- Der Pilz wurde in Deutschland bisher nur 1926 und 1927 bei Heinsberg (Nordrhein-Westfalen) nachgewiesen (Scholz & Scholz 1988) und wird als indigen eingestuft.
