- In Kruse et al. (2018) wurde gezeigt, dass es sich bei Ustilago serpens um einen Komplex aus mindestens zwei verschiedenen Arten handelt: Ustilago serpens und U. kummeri.

- Die Untersuchung der Befälle an Bromus erectus steht noch aus. Diese können bisher nur der Ustilago serpens-Gruppe zugeordnet werden.
