- Nach phylogenetischen Untersuchungen von Choi et al. (2015) handelt es sich um einen Artenkomplex. Sie trennen Peronospora lepigoni an Spergularia rubra von P. sp. an S. marina. Spergularia media wurde nicht in ihre Untersuchungen einbezogen.
