- Rieth (1980) und einige andere Autoren bezweifeln die Berechtigung dieser morphologisch nicht sehr klar abgegrenzten Art und stellen sie in die Verwandtschaft von Vaucheria geminata.

- Im Rahmen der Erhebungen zur aktuellen Roten Liste wurden Populationen von V. verticillata nur selten an terrestrischen Standorten gefunden.
