- Im kurzfristigen Bestandstrend hat die Art in Deutschland stark abgenommen. Wegen unzureichender Daten kann der langfristige Bestandstrend des Heringskönigs in Deutschland nicht beurteilt werden. Ebenso existiert wegen unzureichender Daten (Data Deficient) keine weltweite Gefährdungsanalyse für die Art (IUCN 2023). Heringskönige werden als Beifang in Grundschleppnetzen gefangen (vgl. Kap.
