- Taxon aus der Peronospora trifoliorum-Gruppe; die Sippe ist nach García-Blázquez et al. (2008) nicht näher mit Peronospora trifolii-arvensis verwandt, in die sie bei Klenke & Scholler (2015) eingeschlossen ist. Im phylogenetischen Baum der Arbeit zerfällt sie in zwei genetische Gruppen, eine an Trifolium campestre und T. dubium, die andere an T. badium und T. spadiceum. Nach M. Thines (briefl. Mitt.) handelt es sich dabei um eigene Arten.
