- Die Sippe ist nach Göker et al. (2004) nahe mit Hyaloperonospora hesperidis verwandt, jedoch führen sie weder eine Umkombination in die Gattung Hyaloperonospora noch eine Synonymisierung durch. Im Widerspruch zur Publikation ist die zugehörige Gensequenz in GenBank unter dem Namen Hyaloperonospora hesperidis (Gäum.) Göker et al. hinterlegt und es wird dort Peronospora buniadis als heterotypisches Synonym dazu angegeben. Göker et al. (2009) verwenden die betreffende Sequenz entsprechend unter der Bezeichnung Hyaloperonospora hesperidis, während Voglmayr & Göker (2011) sie als Hyaloperonospora buniadis bezeichnen.
