- Aufgrund der Konidien-Maße stellen Jage et al. (2017) einen Befall an Euphorbia esula agg. (E. esula) aus dem Jahr 2005 zu Peronospora esulae. Nach Ploch et al. (2022) weicht der betreffende Beleg auch phylogenetisch von P. cyparissiae ab. Sie führen ihn unter der Bezeichung „P. esulae nom. prov.“, weil die taxonomische und nomenklatorische Identität mit P. esulae Gäum. bisher nicht ausreichend geprüft ist. Klenke & Scholler (2015) fassten diese Art als Synonym von P. cyparissiae auf.
