- Die Art gehört nach Jage et al. (2017) in die Gattung Hyaloperonospora, wurde jedoch noch nicht umkombiniert.

- Der Wirt ist rückläufig und stark gefährdet (RL-Kat. 2, Metzing et al. 2018), so dass für den an ihn gebundenen Falschen Mehltau gleichermaßen ein Rückgang und eine mindestens ebenso starke Gefährdung angenommen werden muss.

- Peronospora hornungiae wurde erstmals im Jahr 2006 in Deutschland nachgewiesen (Jage et al. 2017). Der Befall ist oft extrem unscheinbar (Gustavsson 1959), so dass die Art früher vermutlich übersehen wurde und als indigen eingeschätzt wird.
