- Der Flugbrand auf Gerste wird von zahlreichen Autoren mit dem Flugbrand des Weizens Ustilago tritici zu einer Art vereinigt, so auch bei Foitzik (1996). Wir sehen beide als verschiedene Arten an.

- Der Pilz wird aus ökonomischen Gründen gezielt bekämpft und ist sehr stark zurückgegangen.
