- Comment on taxonomy
- Gehört zur Untergattung Ephippiochthonius. Wird einerseits als Varietät von Chthonius tetrachelatus (z.B. Duchác 2004) und anderseits auch als gesonderte Art behandelt (z.B. Drogla & Lippold 2004). Da das Taxon bei Harvey (1991, 2013) als valide angesehen wird und Tooren (2011) diese taxonomische Bewertung bestätigt, wird dies auch hier so gehandhabt. Das vormals weiter gefasste Taxon C. tetrachelatus ist in der Roten Liste 1998 (Drogla & Blick 1998) als ungefährdet geführt.
