- Das Weltareal dieser Elritze ist bisher nicht zufriedenstellend untersucht, doch die Art kommt im Einzugsgebiet des Niederrheins weit verbreitet vor. Lokal ist die Art durch Hybridisierung mit ausgesetzten Donau-Elritzen Phoxinus csikii bedroht (z.B. in der Sieg in Nordrhein-Westfalen).
