- Der Pilz wird im Weizenanbau aus ökonomischen Gründen gezielt bekämpft, u.a. durch Fungizideinsatz, Resistenzzüchtungen und systematische Saatgutkontrollen. Er ist sehr stark zurückgegangen. Die früheren Hauptvorkommen befanden sich in montanen Lagen Süddeutschlands. Aktuell gibt es wieder vereinzelte Nachweise auf biologisch bewirtschafteten Flächen. Nachweise an Wildgräsern sind sehr selten.
