- Sie behält ihre charakteristischen Merkmale in Kultur bei, ist also keine Standortmodifikation. Aus diesem Grunde und da gezeigt wurde, dass bei V. cruciata eine hohe infraspezifische genetische Variabilität besteht (Linne von Berg & Kowallik, 1996), wird sie hier als separates Taxon aufgeführt. Als sehr zierliche Form wurde sie möglicherweise bisher oft übersehen.

- Rieth (1980) fand sie in kalkhaltigen Fließgewässern, dem Autor ist sie von einem terrestrischen Standort am Oberrhein her bekannt.
