- Deutschland ist in hohem Maße für die weltweite Erhaltung der Art verantwortlich. Das Weltareal der Mitteldeutschen Elritze (Abb.: siehe Publikation für Abbildungsnummer) ist bisher nicht zufriedenstellend untersucht, doch die Art kommt im Einzugsgebiet der Ems, Weser und Elbe weit verbreitet vor. Deutschland liegt nach derzeitigem Kenntnisstand im Arealzentrum der Art. Darüber hinaus es gibt auch Nachweise aus dem tschechischen Einzugsgebiet der Donau und aus Südnorwegen. Wahrscheinlich ist die Art vor allem in Skandinavien weit verbreitet. Die Autoren und Autorinnen der Roten Liste gehen davon aus, dass >1/10 und ≤1/3 des Weltbestandes in Deutschland vorkommen.
