- Der Pilz könnte leicht für einen Saprobionten gehalten werden, da er oft erst auf dem Falllaub seiner Wirtspflanzen bemerkt wird. Er besiedelt aber bereits die lebenden Blätter in den Kronen alter Bäume und ist – wie alle Echten Mehltaupilze – obligat an lebendes Pflanzengewebe gebunden.
