- Verwechslung mit Mullus surmuletus. Die beiden ehemaligen Unterarten Mullus barbatus barbatus (so in der vorherigen Roten Liste bezeichnet) und Mullus barbatus ponticus werden aktuell als Arten, nämlich als Mullus barbatus Linnaeus, 1758 und Mullus ponticus Essipov, 1927 geführt (vgl. Fricke et al. 2023). In den deutschen Meeresgebieten kommt keine der beiden Arten vor.
