- Trotz der klaren Abgrenzungsmerkmale (vgl. Simons 1974a) von einigen Autoren (Entwisle 1988b, Wilkes 2004) zu Vaucheria canalicularis gestellt.

- Vorwiegend terrestrisch wachsende Art, die wohl leicht übersehen wird, da sie mit anderen Arten durchmischt wächst und ihre charakteristischen Merkmale nicht leicht zu sehen sind. Sie wurde im Rahmen der Erhebungen für die aktuelle Rote Liste erstmals in Deutschland nachgewiesen. Dass die Art dennoch in der Roten Liste von Mollenhauer (1996) stand und dort mit „D“ bewertet wurde, beruhte auf Fehlinterpretation eines Fundes an der Nordseeküste: Er gehörte zu den Niederlanden, nicht zu Deutschland.
