- Bisher wurde Ustilago perennans in der aktuellen Literatur (Vánky 2012, Klenke & Scholler 2015) mit U. avenae synonym gesetzt. Molekulare Untersuchungen durch Kruse et al. (2018) ergaben, dass diese Art klar vom Flugbrand auf Avena-Arten zu unterscheiden ist. Vgl. hierzu auch Kruse (2019).
