- Das Taxon wurde erstmals aus Madagaskar beschrieben und vor 1900 mehrfach für Sachsen angegeben. Für Europa wird das Vorkommen der Art nicht bestätigt (Coesel & Meesters 2013), allerdings wäre zu prüfen, ob sich die historischen Befunde auf das aktuell in Sachsen nachgewiesene ähnliche Staurastrum minimum Coesel (1996) beziehen könnten.
