- Die Art war in Deutschland Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts nahezu ausgerottet. Seitdem sind wieder große Bestände entstanden, aber auch heute noch ist nur ein Bruchteil der nutzbaren Fläche von der Art besiedelt. Grund dafür sind jagdliche Regelungen unter Vorgabe forstlicher Zielstellungen (vgl. Holst & Herzog 2002).
