- Die Art gehört phylogenetisch nicht in die nähere Verwandtschaft von Melampsorella caryophyllacearum (Maier et al. 2003). Bereits Berndt (1993) stellte sie zu Thekopsora, Padamsee & McKenzie (2014) überführen sie dagegen zu Pucciniastrum. Bis zu einer abschließenden Bearbeitung folgen wir der bisherigen Gattungszuordnung in Klenke & Scholler (2015).
