- Ökonomische Verluste in Folge der epidemischen Ausbreitung des eingeschleppten Blauschimmels ab 1959 waren einer der Gründe für die Einstellung des Tabakanbaus in den meisten Anbaugebieten in Deutschland. Die Art steht weltweit unter intensiver Kontrolle und wird stark bekämpft. Sie ist in Deutschland sehr selten geworden.
