- M. elliptica var. dansei im Sinne von Krammer in Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1986 (Tafel 202, Fig. 1-2) ist eine selbstständige noch nicht taxonomisch etablierte Art. Eine Neubeschreibung ist in Vorbereitung. Diese Sippe ist weder mit Mastogloia dansei (Thwaites) W. Smith noch M. elliptica C. Agardh näher verwandt und kommt im Gegensatz zu diesen in reinem Süßwasser vor.
