- An der Westgrenze ihrer Verbreitung zeigt die Brandmaus starke Bestandsschwankungen. Zeitweise gelingen dann keine Nachweise mehr, bis die Art insbesondere im Winter wieder gehäuft im Siedlungsbereich auffällig wird, so z. B. 2015 und 2017 im nordöstlichen Nordrhein-Westfalen.
