- Formen von Sphagnum capillifolium mit stark fibrillösen Stammblättern werden von Meinunger & Schröder (2007) als S. tenerum abgetrennt. Laut Hill et al. (2006) handelt es sich bei var. tenerum (Sull.) H.A. Crum um eine nordamerikanische Sippe.
