- Die taxonomische Stellung des Taxons als Unterart der polytypischen Oreonebria castanea (s.l.) ist unsicher. In den Berner und Walliser Alpen existieren Populationen von O. c. raetzeri mit Übergangszustand im diagnostischen Merkmal der Sternit-Chaetotaxie zu O. c. castanea. In anderen Teilen des Verbreitungsgebietes, so auch im Südschwarzwald, sind beide Formen sympatrisch. Hier sind sie auch anhand genetischer Marker eindeutig differenziert (A. Szallies in litt. 2012). Es ist also nicht unwahrscheinlich, dass es sich um zwei distinkte Arten handelt. Dies muss durch weitergehende phylogeographische Untersuchungen geklärt werden.
