In der letzten Fassung der Roten Liste wurde eine schon seit Jahrzehnten frei im Wuppertaler Zoo (Nordrhein-Westfalen) lebende Population gestreifter Hörnchen noch als Sibirisches Streifenhörnchen (Eutamias sibiricus) angesehen. Es handelt sich dort aber um das aus Nordamerika stammende Streifen-Backenhörnchen (vgl. auch die Abbildung in Meinig et al. 2011). (Abb. 14)
