- Aufgrund genetischer Analysen wird die ehemals in die Gattung Tamias gestellte Art heute als einzige Art in der asiatischen Gattung Eutamias geführt (z. B. Piaggio & Spicer 2001). Tamias ist nach dieser Gliederung eine rein amerikanische Gattung.

- Die Art ist in der „Liste invasiver gebietsfremder Arten von unionsweiter Bedeutung“ der EU (EU-Verordnung Nr. 1143/2014) aufgeführt. Von der Art ausgehende negative Wirkungen sind zu minimieren, solche sind jedoch bisher in Deutschland nicht erkennbar.
