Laut W. Schröder (pers. Mitt.) eine eigenständige Art, mit Bryum mildeanum nahe verwandt (Meinunger & Schröder 2007). Neukombination zu Imbribryum erforderlich.

Erstmals von Meinunger & Schröder (2007) für Deutschland aus den Bayerischen Alpen nachgewiesen.
